Summer is officially here again, and as usual, rising temperatures have come along with it. Finding a way to keep your pet cool this season is something that should be on your priority list. Therefore, we have helped compile a list of things to do to ensure that your pets remain cool during this hot period. So, without further ado, here we go:

#1 WATCH OUT FOR SIGNS OF DEHYDRATION

Dogs are not endowed with the ability to sweat instead, they cool off by panting. This simply means that a dog that’s experiencing excessive heat will drool a lot. Its eyes will be bloodshot, it might come up with a pale skin, and it will become really lethargic. If you lift any part of its skin, it will take a while, usually longer than normal, before the skin falls back into place. All of these are signals of dehydration. Once you notice them, follow the next tip.

#2 KEEP YOUR PETS HYDRATED

Once you notice your pet is dehydrated, you need to ensure that it becomes hydrated as soon as possible. You need to keep it in mind that dogs have different ways of battling the heat. Therefore, they have different needs when dehydration sets in. But to be on a safer side, ensure that you always have a bottle of water with you whenever you take your dog for a walk. Or to make it better, put the water in a backpack or a vest and let your dog carry it—doing this will not only keep your pet cool, it gives him a purposeful job to do.

#3 HAVE EARLY MORNING OR LATE NIGHT EXERCISES WITH YOUR DOG

These time periods happen to be the coolest times of the day. Exercising your dog during these times will make the activity more comfortable for you and your pet. The exercise must not be an intensive one; just a simple walk in the park is enough to make your pet cool.

#4 MAKE USE OF DOGGIE BOOTS

This is for those who might be too engaged to walk their dogs early in the morning or late at night. Buying doggie boots and putting it on your dog will help protect it from the heat when you take it for a walk during the day. Surfaces like asphalt and cement release heat, and since dogs release and absorb heat through their feet, you’ll be doing your pet a lot of good by providing him/her with doggie boots.

#5 GET EM’ WET

Have your pet go for a swim in the kiddie pool or use the water hose for some outdoor fun. Adding some pet-safe toys in the kiddie pool will make pool time for your pet extra fun. Play a game of fetch and hose your pet to keep him cool. Added bonus, you can have a waterproof pet activity tracker, like Poof, track all the fun activity. Poof devices are waterproof up to 1 meter and up to 30 minutes.

Follow our tips and have the waterproof Poof track all the activity while your pet remains happily cool throughout the Summer.
